AE rendering time

I am curious about rendering time.
I am archiving a bunch of VHS tapes to DVD, and QT, after doing some color correction work.
I am using AE 6.5, working on a Powermac G5 Dual 2.0, running OS 10.4.10
I just rendered the first two hour tape, after having done level adjustments, (throughout the tape where needed), and a 2% scaling to lose the black bars on the side and bottom.
The render took eight hours.
The second two hour tape, I did the same scaling, a similar amount of levels, but I also did a minor amount of hue/saturation and shadow/highlights.
The render took over sixteen hours.
Is this normal? Should the rendering time have doubled?

Yup. Every time you add an effect, you add to the render time. And some effects are more render-intensive than others. So doubling the render time sounds about right.
I do a lot of 30-second-long comps, and I would just LOVE to have one of them render out in 4 minutes, which would be the same time ratio on the second render you mention.

Hey Dave,
I appreciate you getting back to me.
I though that doubling up was way too long, and that something must be wrong.
Thanks for the confirmation.
All The Best,
