Audio Woes
by DeadEyesSmiling on Sep 10, 2007 at 10:04:26 pm

I'm having some problems with the RAM preview and audio. I can hit the period key and hear audio just fine, I can RAM preview without audio just fine, but when I try and do both, AE just freezes and never does anything. I'm working on a project timing effects to audio, so the capability of doing this is pretty important.

AE 6.5 Pro
Windows XP SP2
Pentium 4 2.40 GHz
2.0 GB RAM
Sound Card: Creative SB Audigy LS
Video Card: ATI Radeon X1300 Series 512MB

My memory and cache settings are all set at defaults:
Max memory usage: 120%
Max RAM Cache Size: 60%
Maximum Disk Cashe Size: 8000MB

I also have Open GL preview rendering on, if that affects anything.

Thanks ahead of time!

I was recently having some audio preview files with AE8 and my Mac.

I have a hunch my problems were not of the same origin as yours but I'll tell you how I fixed mine.

In addition to the built-in audio capability my Mac has a 3rd party firewire audio card. I UNINSTALLED all the drivers for that and then deleted the AE prefs file.

I quit AE and then went into my sound prefs and reset all my drivers to the built-in defaults.

Then again deleted prefs and relaunched AE.

That seemed to resolve everything for me.

Okay, now before you start uninstalling and reinstalling stuff, just take a shot at turning off the Open GL and trying again.

Open GL implementation is NOT one of AE's strong suits, and it just might be messing things up for you on RAM previews. It's easy to check, and you don't have uninstall and reinstall.
