Suggest you visit adobe.com and search for openGL. The AE forum has several threads. It's all geek to me but I get the impression that no one knows or admits what's going on.

Adobe is pointing fingers at the OpenGL people and the OpenGL people are all pi$$ed off at Apple. Starting to look like one of those promising technologies that users don't really get to use.

Open GL support is NOT one of best things about After Effects. First, your card has to be on the list of Adobe-approved cards. Even then, After effects doesn't implement all the features of Open GL.

Open GL might be fine for gaming, but it's something of a joke in After Effects. You'd probably be better off to turn it off.
