Audio Preview a Section
by ckeyes on Aug 18, 2007 at 4:27:13 pm

Hi,

I can't seem to find a way to preview audio and video in short sections. Regardless of where I have the beginning and end set it still takes the time to "render" the entire audio clip.

There must be a way to do this?

Thanks,

Carl

"0" (zero)on the numeric pad does a RAM preview (video and audio)of the Work Area.

"." (decimal point) on the numeric pad does a preview from where the Current Time Indicator is located.

Hi,

Thanks but it still takes a long time to even preview
a few frames as it seems to be doing something with the entire
audio track which is quite long.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Carl

[ckeyes] "...it still takes a long time to even preview a few frames..."

Hmmmm. Define "long": do you mean "more than 10 seconds" or do you mean "not instantaneous"?

If you want to RAM preview a small section of the comp, you have to define the beginning and end of the section of the Work Area you want to preview. Never heard of the Work Area? Look it up in AE Help.

But here's how you do it: place the Current time Indicator at the point where you want the preview to begin and hit the b (for Begin) key. Now move to the end of the section, and hit the n (for eNd) key. AE will now RAM preview only that small section. If you have a complicated comp, it will naturally take longer; AE's not only rendering audio but video, too.

If you want to limit the duration of the audio preview -- the preview you actuate by hitting the period on the numeric keypad -- you can do so in Preferences.
