Slow RAM preview on new system
by ghobii on Jul 12, 2007 at 6:33:08 pm

Just got a neww Boxx system -Dual quad cores, 4GB memory, XENA LHe video...problem is that RAM previews in AE are about 6 fps. Doesn't matter what resolution the comp is , even a SD comp with nothing but 1 solid plays back this way. I don't think it's an AE problem cause I have never seen this happen before but thought I'd ask here in case someone else has.
Also, this is a Windows XP SP2 system.

nevermind..it seems the default output for the XENA preview is 1920x1080 so AE was trying to scale everything to this size for playback.

How does that 4GB RAM work out with an 8-core system btw? I heard that you really need 1-2GB per core to run AE/Nucleo optimally..I am wanting to upgrade soon, but a bit iffy about going 64bit right now, which would be the only option if I were to get 8-16GB RAM. So I wondered how 8-cores and 4GB would work until 64bit Windows is a bit more stable and then add more RAM later.

I just wondered how you were getting on?
