Help please. Text-Currency counting up

I'm looking to create animated numbers that would display in a currency format and animate them from $0.00 to $320,000.00. Our church just took a special offering last week, and I want to build this element to build hype as we reveal to the audience how much they gave. So, it would begin counting and then have some false endings...making the audience first wonder if we made the goal. Then the numbers would begin to count up again, and go through that slowing down, pause, then pick up again to eventually reach the total we raised at $320000.00
I first began playing with the numbers text effect, but the highest value I can get that to go to is 30000. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It's time to learn how to do an Advanced Search on the COW. You'll hit the jackpot.
At the top of this page, you'll see a banner with a cow and calf on it. Click on the word SEARCH. Go to the green advanced search area.
Search in the After Effects forum, all active posts, using such search terms as "countdown", "countup", "timer", etc. A lot of people want to know how to do countdown timers, but you can adapt them to your needs. I'm going to guess that you'll find about five different ways to get the job done, but there could be more.
