Face Morphing
by Dominic9 on May 16, 2007 at 11:36:30 am

Hello! Could anyone help me???? I need to create a face morphing effect from a man to a woman, the kind that we have all seen so many times in tv ads and the movies. So, just wondering of there are any tutorials available or any tips of what I could use in After Effects. Thanks! Dom

The best thing for that is Re:Flex. Gotta buy it.

If you just have AE, you could use a combination of dissolving (animating opacity) and using the Mesh Warp, or Liquify effects to manually move each person's features around so they meet at the mid-morph point.

Have you searched the COW for "morph"?

yeah, for ae plugins, mesh warp can work... it's not the easiest tool around, but you can get it to work for this. you may want to apply it to both layers, so the disolving in layer appears to be morphing from the first layer, and visa versa.

also, using gradient wipe, setting the layer that fades in a the gradient map can help... it will allow portions of the disolving layer to appear first, ie, if it was a face the eyes and hair may appear first, followed by the lighter tones.
