Importing paths from AE to Illustrator?
by shirak23 on Apr 20, 2007 at 5:42:07 am

Is this possible? I need to take a path created in AE and import it into illustrator so I can use it to make a vector object to bring BACK into AE. Convoluted, I know, but this is how it needs to be done right now. Illustrator won't accept me copying from AE and pasting into it. How can I get around this?

Thanks.

P.S. Aaargh.

Hi,
Don't know if this helps - in AE7 I drew a path (with the pen tool) and selected it, copied it (Ctrl-C) and pasted in directly into AI CS2 - it works! Is that what you're asking?

Cheers!
Van

Yep! I'm using the same programs and it won't work for me.

I know this question has come up a lot in the past with prior versions of illustrator & AE, but there's a preference setting variable in Illustrator for exporting - there are only 2 options so whichever one you're using now, try the other and everything should cut/paste back and forth easily. Sorry I can't be more specific at the moment...

Hi Shirak,

Try this - in Illustrator CS2 goto preference, under files and clipboard, Copy as PDF & AICB must be checked. Select the Preserve Paths radio button. I have mine setup this way - hope this works for you
