Can`t resize, rotate, etc, imported stuff

I am having a big problem with AE 7. If i drop one composition into another, I don`t get the values to move it around, resize it etc under the drop down menu. I figured must be something they changed in 7. So I started a new file and imported a jpg, dropped it in a new composition, freshly opened, and bam...same issue.... whats the deal? I can open old projects and the values are where they should be in blue so i can freely drag them and change the values. Now i can only right click and enter an exact value which is useless.

Make sure you have the Modes column turned on (it's the second icon in the bottom left of the timeline window). That'll sort it.
