how to make a circus tent
by Ernie Geefay on Feb 13, 2007 at 7:06:15 pm

I'm trying to make a cirus tent using After Effects 3D feature, combined with corner pinning to make the big top meet in the center.
I've started off with a 720x486 image I created of red and white stripes.
and am trying to place the image in 3D space in a "circular pattern"..then top it off with a roof of the same material with corner pinning added
It's a labor intensive project and i was wondering if anyone out there had any better ideas on how I might create a circus tent using other methods.juf

I might make a square layer with the pattern on it, then shine a light through it and project it onto the roof layers. I believe Rick Gerard wrote a tutorial using lights and projection.

As for the tent sides, I think you should make a comp with the pattern on it, then drag this comp into the main comp, make it 3D, copy it, and use the copies for the tent walls.

It's easier to do this in a 3D app, by the way. AE has its limits. :)
