Using 2D Layers to make 3D Wave for Camera to Fly through
by Gochya on Feb 6, 2007 at 12:16:55 am

Hello All,

I want to take a 2d plane and warp it in 3d space to make it like an ocean wave or "C" shape and then fly the 3d camera through it. Is this possible using AE7?? Thanks,

Barry

You can take your 2D layer and use CC Cylinder and fly the camera around. It still isn't a 3D layer but it respects the camera.

If you can your 2D layer to form a C and not a complete Cylinder, then put the 2D layer into a comp that's bigger than the 2 D layer, i.e. using a 640x480 pic (2D layer) make the comp 1280x480 There will be transparent space on the side(s) of your pic, you need that to get the "C" instead of a complete cylinder. Then Rotation, x axis = +90, adjust the other rotations until it's where you want.

Lights won't work on it, you have to use the plugins lighting.

As an alternative to yikesmikes' suggestion, consider 3DLayer from Digital Anarchy.
