Contrast and quality differences on different screens

I am a bit frustrated with the range on quality and contrast of my video depending on what type of screen I play it on. My sister mentioned that it might have a lot to with the fact that my movie is made of jpgs and pngs with blue screen people vs just regular live action footage. Maybe my type of footage doesn't translate well into different compressions but don't movies get made this way?? It seems to me to be possible!! It soo depressing to see how awesome(perfect!) it looks when I first render it from AE to AVI. Then I burn it to dvd with encore and it gets blurry, pixelated even when viewed on the best of screens.... So it looks the best on my computer(LCD) of course since this is where it originated and then it looks overly bright on my roommates computer(LCD). On my old school Sharp telly it looks super contrasty (dark and bright)especially dark. Is there some sort of standardized contrast level and/or rendering method so I don't lose so much quality. Well, since non of your equipment is calibrated, it's inevitable to get variations. Some of it can be remedied, some not. One big issue for you seems to be the usage of non-broadcast safe colors. They will shift colors and cause poor MPEG-II compression on the DVD. So I strongly advise you watch Aharon's tutorial on how to manage that part. It's also not really clear if you already compress your AVI, which is not advisable. Make it uncompressed. For the MPEG-II conversion there's a plethora of options, but most likely you can get massive improvements by changing the transcode settings in Encore or directly exporting M2V from AE.

This sounds like some great advice. I am going to try the broadcast color correction in the tutorial right now. As for the avi compression, I wasn't using any. And I have tried a bunch of different options in encore and I did try on advise from this message board to render to meg2 directly from AE and it didn't help at all but I will continue to try various combinations of settings. Also maybe if I fix the broadcast color balance then try rendering a mpeg2 in AE it will work better. Also I was wondering..in that broadcast color tutorial Aharon says that this only applies to tv. Is that all tvs both old school and LCD flat panels, plasma, hdtv etc.. Because my friend tried it on a hdtv and said it looked awesome. What about projectors? This I am especially wondering about since I am planning to enter my video in film fests. I am assuming that they will be using a projector..maybe they use a special kind..?
