Particular Clouds
by GomuGomu on Dec 5, 2006 at 2:28:31 am

Hiya, wondering if you guys could help here. I'm just trying to recreate the opening part to this clip.

http://www.trapcode.com/gallery/polar2007_h.mov

It uses Trapcode Particular; and I need some help recreating the cloud effect there. I can get the basic gist of it down, but I'm new to the plug-in and can't get it looking nearly as good as that. The birds I'm fine with, since it just looks like some custom particles. I'm having trouble getting the rain to look that good too; and recreating that angle (when it's zooming down into the city).

Emit the cloudlets from a plane and move them around using Turbulence. You can freeze them in place by giving them a massive Air Resistance or reducing the Physics Time Factor to 0. The rain is actually just a trickery - it uses completely exaggerated motion blur settings to get the streaky look.Maybe it also is done using a ring shape as a custom particle (to get some pseudo light reflections). The angle should be no problem. You jsut need a camera that has some distorsion. The default 50mm lens is already rather flat, so try lowering the focal length. If that fails, use Particular's Radial Field with a subtle strength to pull your particles toward a center point.
