Animating Text
by gutstrut on Dec 4, 2006 at 5:15:49 pm

I am making a car out of text. I made the sides using a text path. Now I want to make the top of the car in 3D. So I need to have the text be at 90

How much does this have to look like a car instead of a box? I ask because you may be better off doing this in a 3D application.

Not dead on or anything, I would like curves though. I may have to use a 3D program, but I was hoping I could do it in after effects, I just started learning Maya so I'll try it in there too.

Yeah, if you want curves -- even just one -- you'll need to go real 3D. AE's 3D is incapable of creating curved surfaces. And if you try to create what you want out of a third-party AE plugin like Zaxwerks, you'll go nuts.

Think of AE's 3D as 2 1/2D; you can manipulate 2D planar objects in 3D space. It's lot like playing with cardboard cutouts on popsicle sticks.
