hi there

Basically the problem im having is that if you use the scribble effect with more than 1 mask, you can only have it scribble them all on at the same time, or individually one after the other. Id like to have masks coming on at different times......but the only way I thought I could do it was by using the scribble effect again but then this seems to get rid of the other scribble...like its masking it out or something.

Anyway.......whats the best way to have more than one mask scribbling on at different times?

Thanks in advance!

Dan

If there's no easier way, you should always be able to precomp and then apply the scribble to that precomp.

Good luck!

At the bottom of the Scribble effect controls there should be a parameter called "Composite." I'm guessing you have it set to "On Transparent." Change it to "On Original Image." Once you do this, you can use multiple instances of the Scribble effect just fine.

as Johnathan said, precomping would work fine too :)

Hi colin

thanks for the help, but the main problem i have with precomping, is using different timelines with the same composition window.....do you know what i mean? like when you change the timeline comp it will change that which is in the composition window, and when you have precomps it can get a bit confusing.....or is there a way of getting around this?

Also i have scribble set to on original image but it still seems to be doing the same thing!

cheers

dan

Well when I set both instances of to "On original image" it seems to work fine. Maybe you forgot to make sure that all of the Scribble effects have this setting? And if you decide to use precomping there is a way to make this easier if you are using AE 7. With your main comp open, lock the comp window, then alt + double click on your precomp. That way you can edit your precomp while you look at your primary comp. I think Mylenium may have mentioned this in his tutorial on navigating the AE 7 interface, but I'm not sure. You can do something like this in AE 6.5 too, but it's a little tougher to setup.
