renders from AE looking washed out in FCP

I'm doing compositing and effects work on DV footage in After Effects. Then I'm rendering my movies back out as Quicktime at the best settings and editing them together in Final Cut Pro. When I import the clips back into FCP they look different- washed out and lacking definition. Is this because of something I've overlooked in the output module in AE? I've been using the best settings, but maybe the compression type (I'm using "Animation") is making a difference? I know there must be a better solution other than boosting the saturation of my output from AE to compensate for how washed out it looks in FCP.

Probably the difference between computer levels and video levels. Try creating an adjustment layer then adding a levels adjust effect. Change the imput black to 16 and the output black to 235.

My guess is the extremely common problem of YUV to RGB to YUV conversions.
Search the Cow archives or look on the net into how to deal with the color space changes appropriately.
FCP CAN work in RGB if forced to, but almost all video codecs are YUV. AE only works in RGB space. So your video if not converted correctly will look washy or contrasty.
