text effect, anymore more help??
by Eric Sampson on Oct 21, 2005 at 11:46:50 pm

REPOST: Sorry for not including the link to my last post. Thanks Michael Szalapski for your detailed answer!

http://www.loyalkaspar.com/item.php?s=recent_work&f=espn_quite_frankly&t=es...

@ the end of this sweet spot you see the words "Quite Frankly- With Stephen A Smith" come to life. By "life" I mean that have a reflection that swoops across the letters, they have a nice gradient to them, and they look more alive opposed to just taking After Effects Text Tool and typing the same words and having them just be boring and stagnant.

Can anybody offer some easy ways to get that same look on my text?

Whats the best way to do a nice gradient treatment on the text?

Oh and how do they do reflections across the words?

You could duplicate something similar to this by having your text layer work as a track matte on a precomp with your colours in it. These colours could very easily be made with a black to white gradient and Colorama, animated.

Check out track mattes, very cool.
