AE Newbies Please Note: "Export" vs. "Render"
by Dave LaRonde on Oct 19, 2005 at 4:51:56 pm

The term "Export" is used to describe the process of creating a media file for use by other software. In many kinds of software, exporting is the only way to create a new file, but this is not true in After Effects.

In the world of After Effects there are two terms for the process: "Export" AND "Render". These terms are NOT interchangable. And if you only export, you're probably short-changing yourself.

Generally, rendering gives you far more control over the process of creating media files. In fact, there are very few times in AE when exporting is your only option.

Here's a good rule of thumb: if you have a choice between rendering and exporting, it's almost always better to render.

AE Newbies Please Note: Shiny text is achievable, too achievable; don't do it
by Michael Szalapski on Oct 20, 2005 at 2:25:12 pm

If you want light beams to come from your text, great! Everyone does. It's not overused at ALL! GO right ahead and do it.

If you want to do it Trapcode's Shine can do it with ease.
