the agency that created the logo had the layers in groups and stuff --layers inside of layers
what do i have to do to get this logo into AE so I can work with each layer

not working ken --i resaved the EPS file as an AI file and did what you said and its still coming in as 1 layer --in the original logo in AI, all the logos objects are stacked inside of 2 other layers --do i have to do a release to layers or something?

Yep, there's an Illustrator thing that requires releasing to layers, if I recall. I'm a little behind on my Illy versions, so I don't know of an automatic way of doing it except by dragging each sub-layer (or whatever) above its, er, parent layer.
The point of this being, with recent versions of Illustrator, something often needs to be done in Illustrator before importing into AE as a composition.

k i figured it out --steve your idea is what you have to do--i had to drag all my sub layers (object layers) out and set those above the parent layers --i just deleated the parent layers --who needs parents haha anyway then you have to save the file as an .AI file like ken said --then import into ae as a comp

well it was pretty easy --in cs2 u can select all your sub layers and pull them out --u dont have to do them 1 by 1 - once u do that it just leaves you with your parent layers --then u just delete them --took me yeah 3 steps but --hey it worked
