solid layers

Can I 'expand' a solid layer's dimensions WITHOUT causing the masks within that layer to grow?

All I want is more solid area not bigger masks.

You can use the filter "Grow Bounds"

I think you can cut the masks (Edit > Cut), enlarge the layer, then paste the masks back in.

Can you create a new solid (solid #2) that has the bigger areas. then replace it with the origional solid.

click on the layer you want to replace. goto your solids folder in your bin and while holding down ALT drag it onto the solid you want to replace in your time line. That should keep the effectes, transisionsm, and masks in place and just replace the material.
