help!! timeline not scrubbing anymore!! very annoying!

i hope someone can help me with this because it's very irritating. up until a week ago i could scrub through my timeline just by dragging my time indicator. but now, to scrub i have to hold down the option key. why did this suddenly change?

In the timeline to the right of the blue time readout there are some buttons that enable various features. The button on the far left is the "live update" button. Check that it is selected then give it another go.

amazing. probably would have taken me forever to figure that one out. and if you don't know what the feature is called you can't search for it in the help... :)
