Ryan Duffpulling matts from color matts out of VRAY

I have been given a colored matt pass out of VRAY with 4-5 objects. in order to pull an alpha of each object, i have been doing a linear color key on an object and using that as a track matt. The problem is that some of the colors are close enough that i need to squeeze the tolerance pretty tight. The edges get very chewy and pixelated.

Is there a different technique i should be using?

Tough to say exactly what would work for that image. If the keying effects aren't doing it then you could try to create a matte using Color Correction > Channel Mixer set to Monochrome. For a mixed color like cyan you'd have to try and increase the blue and green contributions while reducing the red. Even then this may only get you part of the way since a lot of these colors do look fairly close.
