Re: Mocha AE in CS6? by Ross Shain on Apr 26, 2012 at 7:40:40 pm
This is not true and a very important distinction for mocha users to understand. CS6 does not ship with mocha AE v3.
Adobe After Effects CS6 ships with "mocha AE CS6". This is "NOT" mocha AE v3.
mocha AE CS6 offers the same functionality found in CS5.5 with the added bonus of a send to mocha button to launch mocha from within AE and set proper project setting.
mocha AE v3 is only available from Imagineer Systems or authorized reseller channel. mocha AE v3 contains features not found in the Adobe bundle including:
new 3D camera Solver
new roto tools: Transform tool & Join Layers
new dopesheet keyframe editor
updated layer manager, shortcuts and more
mocha AE v3 also supports Apple Motion, Final Cut Pro v7 and Boris FX.
mocha AE v3 also supports AE CS4, CS5, CS5.5 & CS6 for those not ready to upgrade.
Upgrade is $195 from any registered mocha AE bundle version.

[Erik Mickelson]"I like Dave's answer best. Why would Adobe bundle "old", "crippled" plugins with new software?"
I like it too, but apparently it's wrong.
It's interesting that the comparison chart to which Ross points makes no mention of Mocha AE CS6, although it's apparently a subset of Mocha 3; you'd think they'd like to point out what AE users could get with an upgrade.
I'm reminded of Apple's long-ago claim that Final Cut Pro "works with any frame rate! mix them if you want!" and Adobe's long-ago claim, "accelerate your rendering with Open GL!" In both instances the more truthful statement would have been, "It's a train wreck! Don't do it!".
Caveat Emptor.

Hi Dave,
There is no marketing speak going on. The drop date to be included in CS6 was very early and simply did not allow Imagineer to get all the new features ready in time.
In most basic terms:
mocha AE CS6 is still totally relevant for planar tracking and roto for AE users.
mocha AE v3 adds new 3D Camera Solve, new roto and keyframe tools and supports AE users that do not wish to upgrade or require added support for Motion, Boris & FCP.
We'll try to update that comparison chart in the near future.

I don't think AE CS6 has shipped yet(I could be wrong, but it does not appear to be running on my computer the last time I looked). There is still time to get it included with the software release. Looks like Imagineer did get the features ready in time after all! Hooray!

[Ross Shain]"...the version that ships with AE CS6 is not a v3 version and does not align with the v3 versions of other mocha products....
Imagineer will continue to put out 3.x point releases throughout the year, but the CS6 build will remain the current feature set.
I think with that we can wrap the thread? "
Sure can. Thanks for the warning. I'll keep it in mind for future misconceptions.

There are not major feature differences between mocha AE CS5 and CS6 other than current stability and optimization fixes.
The only significant difference is that mocha AE CS6 is launched from within AE's animation menu and mocha AE CS5 is launched as a separate application.

Hi Ross,
I have a specific question.
How do I reopen a saved Mocha project that I send from After Effects?
When I save a Mocha project, shut down Mocha, and then try to re-open the project by double clicking it, I get "License Error: mocha AE CS6 must only be launched from After Effects".
I get that I can launch it from AE, but do I really have to send a random clip to Mocha within AE just to open a project?
Doesn't really make much sense.
Thanks for your time.

Why is it I can't see Mocha-ae in my CS6 AE effects panel. Am I missing something, on my mac book and my power mac, it just isn't there - only Mocha Shape.
The programme appears when I search the files and if I click on it it tells me it must be opened in AE, but how?

Yes I know - but the link did not appear. I have re-installed and it is now there, but now I am getting an openGL error when I try to bring bring in the file.
