You used the best third-party plugin there is, unfortunately. Instant HD helps, it doesn't cure.
When attempting an upconvert from DV to 1080, two terms come to mind: "silk purse" and "sow's ear". If it were possible to do a flawless upconvert, who'd bother to shoot 1080? They'd stick with DV.
