Sometime the null that I've parented the camera to moves as I change its position, rotation, etc. I'm not sure why/how this is possible when my camera is parented to it. Any ideas on why this is happening?
Thanks for reading.

Maha

Hi Maha, it sounds like you're not explaining yourself clearly of that there is some confusion as to how Parenting works. What you have described is expect behavior, ie moving a Parent layer and actually having it move.

Upon creating a Parent/Child structure, changing Transform values for the Parent will affect the Parent as well as the Child Layer. You can however change the Child's Transform values without affecting the Parent Layer.

Roland... he meant he parented the camera to a null... and he is moving the null. It should stay put in the center of the screen;

If that null has it's 3d switched on. it maybe because the anchor of your camera is not at the null(perhaps a different z)...so rotations and scales would influence it differently? check for that...

Edit: press "a" on the camera and check if you read 0,0,0.

OR he could be viewing the comp in something other than the Active Camera view. Depending on the view mode and the property involved, what he's describing is a very likely result.

...and a third possibility: the boomerang effect between two identical position keyframes. The fix is to apply Toggle Hold Keyframe to the incoming position keyframe.

Thank you for that, Dave, this is definitely what's going on. Interesting, I didn't know such a thing existed, but makes perfect sense- too I often I just copy/paste key frames instead toggle holding. Good to know.
