problem rotating 3-d illustrator wheels in ae

Illustrator doesn't do live 3D; any 3D perspective effects are correct only for the given object's current position and camera view. Rotating a 3D effect from AI in AE's 3D space is like simply rotating any other 2.5D layer. It will not correctly re-render perspective within that layer.

If you can post a screen shot of the tire, we might be able to give alternate suggestions on how to handle this shot.

I'd extrude a circle shape layer with Mettle ShapeShifter AE [link]. It will respond to the AE camera, and animating SSAE's "Rotation Y" parameter will give you the look you're going for.

Thanks Roland...unfortunately, because of the perspective...they look weird when they turn from the center on the z axis....I think that I am going to have to rebuild. Really appreciate your help!
