Getting rid of Echo repeats

Having filmed some footage of me with a torch on a Canon 5D
I took the footage into AE and used ECHO to lengthen it.
This is the look I want (see JPG) and these are the settings
I've used:

Echo time: -0.010
No of Echoes: 200
Starting intensity: 1
Decay: 1
Operator: Maximum

I like the effect but I want to get rid of the repeated circles
at the end of the tail. So...

1. Can I do this by changing the settings whilst still retaining the 'look'?

2. Or is there a filter in AE that can get rid of this for me without
blurring it?

this may not help you now, but if you know before a shot that you would want to do this type of frame blending effect, and you want the smoothest blending, try shooting with a slow shutter speed (as close to the frame rate as possible) or high shutter angle (as close to 360 as possible).

this should give you the greatest amount of motion blur to the original footage, which will help create the smoothest blending of frames.
