Tutorials really jerky in Flash 8/9

Hi
I think the tutorials are great and they play fine in iTunes. But if you use the links in the newsletter they open in a web page and play back really jerky to the point where they are unwatchable and unlistenable. I have the latest Flash player 9 for a Power PC Mac running 10.4.8
It's nothing to do with my internet connection which is much faster than the playback speed.

It seems to be just the new Flash tutorials - including your one on colour correction in the new newsletter - which are accessed via the newsletter or the Cow web site. The QuickTime ones are fine. All the tutorials I have in iTunes are fine.

are they playing back jerky after they are fully downloaded, or only while they are still downloading. In other words, once you are able to get to the end, if you go back and start again, are they still playing jerky or are they fine after that.

Hi Aharon
They're jerky (sound and vision) even after fully loading and going back. It seems to be a Mac issue as I've just tried them on a PC and they play fine.
Some issue with Macs (Safari and Firefox) and the Flash player maybe?

Andy,
There is a problem with Intel Macs, Firefox and Flash. Please ensure that you delete the Flash plugin from your system and re-install a new plugin from Adobe.com.

Older processors seem to have trouble with this. Especially with Flash. But it's a toss up between higher quality vs. including older machines. But since most of the people watching these will be on newer models (due to the tech requirements of animation) it seems like leaning in favor of higher quality is the way to go.

Fair enough.
I like to keep my 'good' machine just for editing and FX work and all the other stuff like email, web browsing etc I tend to do on the old machine which runs OSX Tiger quite well. I'll look at the tutorials on my PC then - at least it's good for something ;-)

Hey Andy...I'm glad you brought this discussion up as I'm having the EXACT same problems with my 1 Ghz PowerPC G4 iMac. And use my G5 for editing while watching the tuts. It seems like the QT ones are fine and don't stutter. Aaron Kautz

Simply do not play them until they fully download. Sometimes the net connections aren't all that hot depending on how many servers you are being routed through to get to the COW.

I had a machine that used to have problems with Flash, period. So I learned with it that if I wanted to play Flash, (even after it had downloaded completely), I had to let it play once through and then on the *second* play-through, it played fine. Go figure. ;o)

Thanks for taking the time to look into this Aharon et al.
Well they all jerk on my dual 450ghz G4 so it's not a data rate issue. This machine plays QTs MPEGs WMVs and DVDs with no problem so it must be the lousy Flash codec requiring lots of processing.
Not a problem in the modern world of Intel machines but a little lazy on the part of Macromedia and now Adobe perhaps?

I have had the same problem since installing Flash Player 9.
If you're running Firefox, try clearing out the cache and increasing the memory allocated from 10MB to 20MB. This seem to have worked for me.
