We are setting up network storage at our office, and we are hoping to be able to edit over ethernet. We've decided to use a 7 drive RAID 5 array connected via an ATTO r680 to our dedicated video server. We will then direct connect the edit machines via a small tree 6-port ethernet card. I'm looking for up to 4 simultaneous users.
Initially, we had planned on continuing to use our current video server, which is a Mac Pro 3,1 (pre-nehalem), to host this shared media. Given some of the concerns raised by Steve Modicia regarding the current generation's
integrated memory controller should we consider buying a new mac pro?
Assuming that we keep the current Mac Pro, we need to increase the memory in it; it wasn't a high performance server before, so it only has 2GB. How much should we put?
