Panasonic P2StudioPlus Camcorder Studio System with Fiber?

Debating between the JVC and Panasonic solutions for our new HD truck. Some of our venues call for 600' camera runs. The JVC offers a fiber solution that will reach, but the cameras are 1/3". We like the Panasonic 500, but the Panasonic P2StudioPlus Camcorder Studio System only supports 100 meters with power. Has anybody here employed the Black Magic SDI to Fiber converter to extend the range of a CCU? I understand we will need to run battery of separate power, but the Panasonic solution is much nicer IMHO.
