with the same camera at $2800-$2900. My mommy always said if it looks too good to be true....
I always thought of B&H as pricing its products in the middle of the pack, not too high, but not suspiciously low, and with good support, but this is a huge difference. What am I not seeing here?

You might get the camera, but then...OH, you wanted the MANUAL too? That's extra. The battery too? Sheesh, you are demanding, that's more. The battery charger, the component cables...the 16GB P2 card that ships with ALL P2 cameras when you buy them from reputable places? Man...you want EVERYTHING? Why didn't you say so...OK, that takes you from $2800 to....$5300.

The HVX 170 (or if you're in Europe 171). The difference though (besides design enhancements) is that the 200 has a tape mechanism that shoots DVCam as well as giving you the possibility of shooting on P2 cards.

Not to be too pedantic, but the HVX200A does not shoot DVCAM, DVCAM is a Sony only format that features a higher tape run rate than regular DV does, even though the two formats are identical electronically.
The HVX200A shoots DV format to Mini DV tapes.

Thank you all for the information. I think you saved me a lot of heartache. After reading your comments and the reviews you mentioned, I am going with the HPX 170 -- it should be here from B&H within a few days! I am very excited. Again, thanks to all .

You won't be disappointed. I got a 170 in January and I could not be happier. The warranty on the camera is also fantastic. don't forget to register!!! 5 year warranty from panasonic! that's a beautiful thing! Also, check out the scene files on the panasonic p2 website (you get there through the business section on the panasonic site). There are really cool ones that are definitely worth experimenting with! Treat it well and it will do the same for you!
