Using Zeiss prime lenses on a HPX300
by Martin Jordan on Sep 2, 2009 at 10:50:39 pm

I purchased 3 Zeiss prime lenses some time ago.

Planar 1.4/50 ZF, Planar 1.4/85 ZF and Distagon 2.8/25 ZF

My question is, is there an adapter that would allow me to use these primes on my new Panasonic HPX300 Video Camera?

I DON'T want to use a Letus Extreme or something like that. I'm not looking to get a cine look. I just want to mount these lenses straight to the camera body and shoot. But I have to have some kind of adapter to fit the Bayonet mount on the camera.

Does anyone know of a company that makes such a thing?

In a word, no! The flange focal distance won't allow it. The lens would have to sit inside the front of the camera. There are 2 ways to put 35mm stills lenses on B4 cameras (in addition to the Letus etc.) First is to replace the lens's mount completely with either a B4 or Universal (but this is only usually feasible with telephotos), or by using an intermediate optic (ie a low strength teleconverter).

The only mount That I have used and tested is for Ziess Digital (B4 mount ) This mount is built by Fujinon. You lose alittle on the sped of the lens and on the wide end.
