Playing QT Export from FCP on Macs without FCP installed

Hi P2 users,
Could anyone enlighten me as to why is it that when I export a sequence (footage shot on Panasonic 200 & 500) straight from Final Cut Pro (6) as a Quicktime, the QT will not play on another Mac that doesn't have Final Cut installed. I have tried installing Quicktime Pro but all I get is audio and no visual. Do I need to add DVCPRO HD as a plug-in to Quicktime Pro?
Any nugget of knowledge appreciated.
Many thanks,
Steve

I believe it would also depend on whether you are exporting as a self contained movie or a reference movie. If you are exporting as a reference...it will always look for the FCP timeline to "reference" what should playback in the QT.
If I am not mistaken...I usually just export reference movies to drop into DSP and other programs so I dont have these huge, uncompressed video files to deal with on my hard drives.

Hi Tim,
When exporting the RAW sequence I use Quicktime as a self-contained movie. I'm looking into a format / codec that Quicktime has as part of its standard installation. Maybe Apple Pro Res if its recommended.

Hi John,
Thanks for the link and info. Pricey solution especially for multiply machines.
I'm thinking now maybe its not such a good idea to be using DVCPRO HD as a Sequence Format preset.
Do you think I should use something like Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 960x720 25p 48KHz in FCP when shooting on the Panasonic 200 & 500 at 720p in PN Format..?

Don't use (HQ) just standard ProRes will work. You will need to install the play only codec on each system, which is available for free for both Macs and PCs.

I'd still edit in DVCPROHD- nothing gained by making everything ProRes in the cut. But if you need to share outputs with multiple non-FCP systems definitely export to ProRes.
