backup drive and media drive, but only 1 firewire input...
by goro toshima on Dec 26, 2008 at 10:19:42 pm

hello,

i'm trying to sort out workflow issues, shooting on P2 and editing on macbook FCP.

if i offload all footage from P2 onto backup drive (owc firewire 800) and then want to use FCP to import that footage (using caldigit drive as media drive) into media drive, how does this work with only one firewire input on my macbook?

do i have the backup drive connected to macbook via firewire and the caldigit media drive connected to mackbook via usb? or vice-versa?

or am i completely confused and there is another way?

thanks a lot.

goro

Why not just daisychain? You can connect as many firewire 800 drives as you want(technically there is a limit but you're never likely to hit it) by simply connecting them to each other. Only one has to be connected to the MacBook Pro.

actually i'm on a macbook with just a firewire400 (not 800 as mentioned earlier)...

i assume that's ok to daisy chain too?

thanks again.

Yes of course- that would do the trick.
