I'm attempting to dub Hi8 tapes from a Hi8 camcorder to the MiniDV in the HVX-200A; however the HVX isn't recognizing the Hi8 camcorder, and the Panasonic manual doesn't provide helpful information.
I have the two camcorders attached via a S-Video cable. I have the HVX set to Tape and VCR mode. When I press Play on the Hi8, no image appears in the HVX LCD viewfinder. When I press the two REC buttons on the top of the HVX, the recording function begins but doesn't record any Hi8 tape.
What am I missing?
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks very much.

If you are not seeing the video image in the viewfinder before you hit record you won't see it after you hit it.
Have you confirmed that the other camera is sending out a video signal?

Do you have the HVX200 set to 1394 in?

Hi Jan,
After your post, I set it to 1394 in. No changes. But would setting it to 1394 in make a difference since I'm attempting a dub using S-Video?
In any case, since you're the product manager, what would be the exact steps you'd take to set-up the HVX-200A to receive an S-Video input signal and record it either to (1) P2 or (2) Mini DV?

Hi Michael, thanks for your reply.
Yes, the Hi8 is sending out a video signal through S-Video. I connected it via S-Video to my TV via my DVD/VCR and it came up fine.
So it appear so be a setting I'm missing on the HVX...

Scott,
I had to set up my camera to dub a VHS and it only records to tape mode and not P2, I'm just using the camera as a converter so I set the camera to TAPE and went from camera to FCP via FW and it worked fine for Capture now.
