hvx200a questions
by Luke Pearson (LukeWarm13) on Jun 4, 2008 at 3:22:37 am

I'm new to the HD world and just want to get a few things straight.
The HVX 200a's shoot in SD and HD, correct?
Can you shoot SD on the P2 card?
Does anyone know if the HPx170 will shoot in SD at all?
I've been reading a lot of things about people having problems with the P2 cards and other forms of tapeless workflow and it scares me a little. I liked the reliability I had in tape recording. Do I have anything to worry about or should I just get over it and jump on the band wagon?

Thanks for helping with these "busch league" questions.

[Luke Pearson] "The HVX 200a's shoot in SD and HD, correct?"

Yes. 81 different formats in all.

[Luke Pearson] "Can you shoot SD on the P2 card?"

Yup. DV and DVCPRO 50.

[Luke Pearson] "Does anyone know if the HPx170 will shoot in SD at all?"

I would venture a yes...DV and DVCPRO 50 to the P2 card...but that would be something Jan could answer better as the camera is not out yet.

[Luke Pearson] "Do I have anything to worry about or should I just get over it and jump on the band wagon?"

Only jump if you want to jump. Up to you. The issues with P2 are small and very infrequent. I haven't had an issue yet and I have utilized it for many broadcast shows. The biggest issue is ARCHIVING, and the rock solid solutions arent cheap.

Correction here .... the 200a is out, it's the 170 that isn't. 200a is half stop faster, less noise and getting great reviews.
