p2 data rate in FCP?
by wherewolf on Oct 1, 2007 at 9:31:54 pm

I'm working in a DVCPRO HD sequence-- 960x720, 720p60, 23.98 timebase. After log and transfer, the data rate for my p2 clips are 5.9 MB/s...IS THAT CORRECT? I thought it would be higher...

any help appreciated.

Nope...that's right. I get between 5.6 and 5.9.

This is because DVCPRO HD is a compressed HD format....but also because you are working with footage at 23.98 fps. DVCPRO HD at 59.94 fps is 12.6MB/s.

I know...I know...I too was shocked at first that it was so little. That I could use a FIREWIRE drive to work with this format. But...you can.
