Slow P2 copy workaround

Like many of you on this thread, I have also been experiencing slow P2 copy times when copying from the P2 Store over USB. Whether the source was a volume that was on the harddrive of the P2 Store or if it was on a P2 card in the slot, copying times were dreadful.
I stumbled across a fix that transfers my 8GB volumes in about 8-9 minutes. All you have to do is copy the Lastclip.txt file to the destination by itself first then drag the Contents folder to the destination. The trick is to do them separately. It has been working consistently.
If anyone knows why this would happen it would be a good start on fixing the issue. Is it a limitation in OS X when copying multiple items from FAT32 to HFS+?

I've heard others report that same thing. Don't know why it would be true, but apparently it is.
Apple doesn't recommend doing a copy like that anyway. They've updated their workflow recommendations, they now recommend making a disk image of the P2 card.

At what point in the process do you do this? You mount the P2 store, and then make a disc image to your media drive, and then unarchive from there? Is that the desired workflow from Apple? Is there a whitepaper on the workflow somewhere? Thanks for your time.
