Was recently playing with the D90 in shop. Liked the quality of the stills I took.Though while playing I couldn't find the function to fix the iris in live view mode. Is it possible to fix it while filming?

Hi, now I can call it my own. Still I have great problems controling exposure while filming in livemode.
Is there perhaps an older forum about the question?
Everyone talks about the 720 feature...can't understand why:-(

I harping about it like a parrot right now, but have a look at the Panasonic GH1 - I got one and it's pretty darn good for it's price. Full manual in video mode. Can be hard to find at moment though.

While the d90 doesn't let you manually control exposure, you can lock the exposure before shooting. It tends to overexpose in the LiveView mode, so aim the camera at a brighter part of the scene before engaging the lock. You also can manually set your F-stop (and hence your DOF) before engaging the LiveView mode. The camera seems to default to a filmic shutter (1/48th or so) unless you are in bright light--here you need ND filters, just as you would on any other camera to maintain the shutter speed.
The d90 is a great entree into video DSLR shooting--a lot of very nice projects have been shot on it (check out the vimeo Nikon d90 group for examples). Hopefully Nikon will give us a firmware update with manual controls and come up with a newer body in the next year or so with improved capabilities.
Personally I think that the GH-1 is over-rated, and that the future will be with Nikon or Canon's line of cameras.

Well, if a $1500 camera that out-of-the-box can shoot this with only a couple of NDs added is overrated then I don't know what would live up to your expectations. Click on title to view it in HD on Vimeo. Or download it as a Quicktime file.
