help with Apple's Aperture
by tom (Tom) on Jan 27, 2007 at 3:22:25 pm

from using Photoshop ( I know it not made to takes it's place) I am really confused ? when I import where do my images go ? I made the Libary on an external firewire hd to save space on the MBP. I made the vault on the external drive also. But i can not find a list of my tif images I imported. I tried a simple export to a disk and burnt and a 2.8 mb image is now a 35mb in size. any help please. Note I see the labary and the vault on my drive but just do not see the list of images.

thanks all

Aperture store all files, including the images if you are using the Aperture to store the images, in packages. If you select the Aperture Library and right click or control click, choose "show package contents" to see a more traditional view of the folders. Each image will eventually have it's own folder. As far as the change in file size, Aperture treats all images as 16-bit file- so depending on export method, you may have had a 8-bit file that Aperture automatically "converted" to 16-bit and saved that. Finally, you shouldn't keep the Vault on the same drive as the Library. The whole idea of the Vault is to have a complete back up of your images should something, such as hard drive failure, to the original Library.
