I just got a new Canon 20D. I like rodeo and sports photography and would like to know some recommendations on lenses that would be good for sports photography. Any suggestions....

Simple answer is; buy the best you can afford. Go for the fastest one you can (i.e. f/2.8, or a VR lens)For longer lenses, you can't go wrong with Canon's "L" series glass. My experience with their wider, cheaper lenses is not good at all, but I'm sure the "L" lenses are fine.
Based one the little info you gave: For Rodeo, I'd assume you'd want something like a 24-120 (don't know if this exists in canon's line-up). That's assuming your shooting from the shoots, or close to them. For sports, it depends on what you're shooting. I shoot skateboarders, I use a Nikor 10.5mm fish-eye, and a Nikor 20mm. If I need to shoot somebody "really far away", I use my Nikor 60mm micro. But, if I was shooting surfing or football, I'd want something like a 100-400mm.
Hope this helped.

Amish,
I have a question...
I have never tried one of the new Nikon VR lenses, I was wondering if the VR feature is noticeable good or if its just okay or is it fantastic?
Last year I was playing with a Nikon F6 and an auto focus 50mm, the auto focus feature was on and I was SHOCKED at the speed and accuracy of that thing. I had never messed with an auto focus lens on a real pro 35mm camera, this was an eye opener. All my Nikons are F4 and below, but I understand that the VR feature will work regardless of the non automatic nature of my equipment.

the canon 2.8 200mm is cheap and fast compared to the 1.8 which is obviosly better, but
nearly 6 times as expensive. If you are outside or a well lit arena, you will get excellent shots
with it...but is not very practicle for anything but telephoto obviously since your 20d makes
it over 300mm with the crop.
