Clay, your 17-55 infinity focus problem may be fixed with new D2x software upgrade

Clay,
D2x firmware 1.01 is out and many on the DPreview forum are saying it fixes your 17-55 problem. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out at http://www.dpreview.com/news/0511/05110801nikonfirmware.asp

Oops, in my subject I should have said "firmware" not software.

Thanks a lot. I actually just downloaded this before I read this thread. I will test it out in the next day or so. I am too tired right now to do it...

I am still here. I have just been so busy. My photography sort of came to a screaming hault when I returned from Italy in August.

Most of my spare time has been put towards sending my Freddy Cole documentary to festivals, etc. It is a full time job doing this...

I miss my photography. I just dug out everything I ever shot in New Orleans and would love to work with some of those images.

Amish Ed: I'm Still here, too. I've been busy with work and testing out another 17-55 at the same time, this one from B&H. Thought everything was passable but that spot I was seeing on my test photographs turns out to be INSIDE the lens... Oh well, I'll get a good one, one of these days. On the bright side, the new 10.5mm I got at the same time seems to be fine.

Good to hear from you,
Richard

Good to see you both are around, but too bad you both aren't shooting more. Myself, I'm not shooting enough either. At work I am, but the art is stalled. This week I should be going again though; I have a show next month, and another this spring. I did have one fun shoot at work though. Two models I have shot in the past are a couple, and I got to shoot them together. Not too often I get both a professional model and one who is energetic, yet alone 2 models together that are both. Here's one shot... http://www.biotemps.com/

Cool shot, Ed. You put it all together with that shot. Love the pose and the expressions!

About your wishing that I was shooting more... well, maybe you misunderstood when I said I've been busy with "work." Work is shooting- and writing. I've indeed been shooting a lot although not always what I want to shoot.

Well that's good Richard, I couldn't remember how much of your work was shooting. Shooting is shooting, even if it isn't all that fun. Keeps the skills honed anyways.

I ran the upgrade & did some shooting today with my 85, 50 & 17-55 with my D2X.

I think it is behaving differently. I am not certain if it is "fixed."

I will do some more testing.

Let us know how it turns out. Would you like some threads to posts on other sites (Dpreview) where people said the update fixed the issue, or did you find these already?

Honestly, I read posts on dpreview until I was blue in the face...

There is a problem / there isn't a problem...

I think it is working quite nice. It won't solve the problem though for my S2...

It is raining here now so I can't do the outside testing I would like to...

Here is a shot using the 85 at 1.4...

The answer is "No"

After doing more shooting with this I can say that I don't notice any improvement with the focus issue.

:(
