A client of mine is looking for a good digital still camera. She wants something that is small and light for travel, but a high quality (money is not a concern for her), with decent a sized memory and zoom.
Can anyone make a good recommendation? Thanks. - Rob

Everyone has their favorite camera. But I would suggest that the camera selected should take "AA" type rechargeable batteries, as opposed to proprietary ones. This is especially important when travelling; you can buy alkaline AA's almost anywhere if needed. And a couple of extra ones, preferably rechargeable, make nice spares and give peace of mind. I carry 6, plus a set of two in my camera.

I am making the transition from using a Fuji S2 to the Nikon D2x.
The Fuji camera was powered by 2 - CR123 batteries & 4 AA batteries... It was a constant production changing out batteries. CR123 rechargeable batteries do not exist & I have been unable to find a place in the US that will recycle and/or dispose of them properly. "Throw them in the trash" is what they say (the battery manufacturers.)
The D2X is powered by one proprietary battery source. It lasts for days. I have to say, I prefer this much better.
But I do understand about the availability of AA batteries. That is very convenient & universal.

My first digital camera was a SONY DSC ??? with 3.3 Megapixels, and a proprietary lithium ion battery. Bought an extra battery for around $45. A year and a half later I gave it as a gift, and bought a SONY DSC P-92 which was the same size & looks, but 5.0 Megapixels, and took 2AA cells. The rechargeable AA's are sold on the internet very reasonably. You could stick both cameras in your jeans' pocket if you had to. Each has exceeded 3000 photos without problems. I'm very pleased with the rechargeable AA cells. Pics look great, blown to a full 19" Monitor. Shot some aerials from 32,000 ft with the P-92 and could identify individual houses, including mine! Next cam will be just as small, but I'll "wait" for 12 Megapixels.
