We use Dreamweaver CS3 on Mac OSX (currently on a G5, migrating to a MacPro).

On the G5, Dreamweaver is set up with a large number of Site Definitions. I need to migrate all of these Site Definitions to the new MacPro, which is also running DW CS3.

Of course, moving copies of the sites is easy, since the web pages are kept in folders. A copy/paste operation.

Is there a tidy procedure for transferring the Site Definitions? Do I need to copy/move one single file from the old machine? Multiple files? What is (are) the file name(s) and where can I locate it (them)?
Will I lose all of my passwords?

I assume that once I get these Site Definitions copied over, I can just go through and refer each one to its appropriate local file.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Go to menu >Site >Manage Sites

A window will open with your sites listed.

For each site you'll need to:

-Select the site
-Press the Export button
-Choose a target folder and save the .ste file

In your new machine you'll need to go again to the Manage Sites window, but then, press the Import button and select the previously saved .ste files

That should do it

Thanks, Fernando.

Got it. Looks like we'll need to export multiple files -- good to know! I was under the impression the information was stored all in one place. Who knows where I got that idea. ;-)

I'll give it a try and let the forum know how it goes.

Just FYI, I tried the method suggested and it did work.

After exporting the .ste files from my old machine, I copied them to the new machine. From Manage Sites, I selected all of my copied .ste files, then hit import. Dreamweaver proceeded to ask me to locate the root folder (and sometimes the images folder) for each of the sites. A bit time-consuming, but far less so than locating all the passwords and ftp information for each website.

I checked just one of the sites, so I don't know for certain if I got every one of them linked up correctly, but at least my test worked out.

So, thanks!
