WebCalendar
by Kathy Behn on Nov 4, 2009 at 11:20:29 pm

Stick me with a fork, I'm done...
Does anyone know how to install the SourceForge WebCalendar onto a Dreamweaver cs4 website? I have downloaded to a folder the zip file for the calendar and extracted all the files. I have them in my root folder, and mySql setup on GoDaddy. The instructions tell me "using my browser" go to the location of my newly uploaded files in the URL. I have no idea how to upload my files and to where. Can anyone help me out. I would be forever greatful!!!!

Hi Kathy. I'm the webmaster of one website hosted by GoDaddy. To upload files to the site, I use the Windows>Files panel in Dreamweaver CS4. That panel can show you what files are on your computer, as well as on GoDaddy's servers. It allows you to "Put" files from your computer to GoDaddy, or "Get" (i.e. download) files from GoDaddy to your computer. It's a bit complicated at first, but it works well.

If you haven't already done so, you need to go into Manage Sites to set up Dreamweaver so that it can communicate with GoDaddy. You'll do basic things like identify the web address, GoDaddy password, etc.

I hope this all makes sense and works for you.

Jim

P.S. Sorry I'm a day late in responding. I hadn't checked this page in a couple days. Hopefully, you've already solved the problem.

Jim, thank you very, very much for the response. I understand how to set up my site in DreamWeaver and all that, I actually have the site up and running, but now they have asked me to put the webcalendar on the site. I went to the webcalender site and downloaded all the files I need, I have the webcalendar in mySQL on godaddy, the only part I don't understand is the whole PHP thing, how to get the actual page onto my site where they login with their password and access the calendar. When I upload the files I get the index.php page but have no idea what to do with it??? or how to put the whole together. Yes I am blond(:

Jim, I'm back again...I have been working on this thing for 6 hours today, the tears are flowing. The instructions tell me to run the webcalendar install wizzard, and to login to webcalendar as an administrator and do the configuration wizard. I know I also need to change the mySql info to match my data base on godaddy but I can't find any of this stuff

Usually on this apps (i haven't used that one) a floder is installed in your site. You upload the entire folder, then, you access it in your browser directly.

How is that? If you installed in your root folder, then you write in your browser:

http://www.yoursite.com/webcalendar/

I assume the folder created is called webcalendar.

And, usually too, inside that folder is another folder called "admin". So to enter as an administrator you should write the same address plus the admin floder. Something like this:

http://www.yoursite.com/webcalendar/admin/

The process should be self explanatory, but probably you will need to create a database in for your site, then in admin you will be asked for the access to that database and the app should populate it automatically.

I hope this helps

Thank you for your response, I don't know what I would do without you guys on here, you are UNBELIEVABLE. Now here is my problem. I was able to upload and configure the calendar. But now when you type in my site into the browser the webcalendar is all that comes up. I obviously configured something wrong. Any idea how to fix this.

Wow your quick on the draw...I know I went in and deleted the calendar and started over. I hope I'm doing it right. I don't know if I set up the database right. I put into the "webcalendar" does that seem right? I want it to show up on a certain page not my home page.
