LINKING SWF (FLASH) FILEs
by Lance Haslewood on Nov 4, 2009 at 9:08:38 pm

I have created a simple .swf file using Adobe Flash which I have inserted into the homepage of a car club web site which I manage. How do I link this file to either another web site or to a html file within the car club web site as the Dreamweaver Property Inspector does not provide a Link Box for .swf files? It does, however, provide a Link Box for other file types. Thanking you in anticipation. Lance Haslewood, Australia.

For creating a flash button you should ask in the flash forum.

In DW you can always place an element in front of your flash, like a transparent gif, and link it.

You can also create a div and place the swf flash inside, then link the div. But this is not compatible with all browsers so it's not a best practice.

You should go for the inside flash button

G'Day Fernando, thankyou for your response. I don't believe that linking Flash elements is a Flash Forum issue but more a Dreamweaver one. I note that this forum has a few of Flash elements around its periphery which are linked. I'd dearly like to know how it's done.

Lance.

I can explain you how to link a flash file inside flash. For that I will assume:

-You know how to use flash
-You know how to create a button inside flash
-You are using AS2 as your inside flash code

First, place a square button in front of all your elements, fully covering your movie.

Make your button transparent. In CS4 you can go to the properties panel and in the Color Effects tab select Alpha with a value of 0.

Open the Behaviors panel. For that go to the menu Window> Behaviors

In the Behaviors panel press the plus sign to open a menu. Then go to Web> Go to web page

A window will open. There you can paste an absolute link to the page you want to go.

Publish your swf.

Insert your swf into Dreamweaver.

I hope this helps

There are some ways, but the best practice will be to create a button inside your swf with the link inside.

I hope this helps
