Text alignment issues affecting entire css instead of selected text

Hi, when making a change to a particular text or table, like changing the alignment from center to align left, it is affecting the css style sheet instead of just the selected material in the table or text. So everything on the entire site is coming up align center... yikes!

Troubles are probably related to using a css from a 3rd party template. Not sure where to put the style.css to insure it gets read correctly on our site in the browsers. In Dreamweaver the style sheet looks ok, but when upload to our site the pages look pretty grim.
