Preview not the same as web
by April Hill on Sep 11, 2009 at 6:46:09 am

Hi all,

I having a some trouble with a rollover image (the "blogging" post-it at http://www.macncheeseproductions.com). When I preview it in DW, it works fine - a red circle appears when the mouse is over it, and when clicked, it takes you to my blog. But on the web, it doesn't work. I've tried uploading the affected images a few times, as well as the page, thinking that maybe one of my changes didn't get saved/uploaded, but that doesn't seem to do anything.

Any suggestions? Does providing code help?

if it works locally but not on your website, then i suggest you need to upload the file back up to your FTP, because on the link you have provided, there is no behaviour coded to the blogging image in the code of the webpage you have posted up... sycronise the files between your local computer and the internet, or simply drag the working index page across to the FTP using the upload window.

Thanks Richard - I see where you note that there's no behavior code associated with my blog image. This is the code in DW for that image:
<td colspan="3" rowspan="5">

<a href="http://www.macncheeseproductions.wordpress.com" target="_blank"

onmousedown="changeImages('Index_21', 'images/Index_21-over.jpg'); return true;"

onmouseup="changeImages('Index_21', 'images/Index_21-over.jpg'); return true;"

onmouseover="changeImages('Index_21', 'images/Index_21-over.jpg'); return true;"

onmouseout="changeImages('Index_21', 'images/Index_21.jpg'); return true;">

<img name="Index_21" src="images/Index_21.jpg" width="222" height="198" border="0" alt=""></a></td>

Which means it should link to the blog, right? I've tried uploading the images and the page a few times via the FTP, to no avail. I'm not sure how to do the syncing you mention. What I've been doing is selecting the files I want to update in DW (index, index_21, and index_21over) and then "Put Files." If that's not what you mean by "upload" can you tell me how to upload?

Thanks so much!

Hi April.

Trust me, this might be the case for your page in Dreamweaver, but it is NOT the case for the page you have linked to.

<td colspan="3" rowspan="5">
<img src="http://www.macncheeseproductions.com/images/Index_21.jpg" width="222px" height="198px" alt="" /></td>

This is the only code in the page that you linked to, thus you have not got the most up to date page live on your site FTP. You need to drag this file over into your FTP again, try doing this whith the file closed rather than open, that might help, or try deleting the page off of the FTP first then uploading this one back in its place, esure the name is saved correctly index.html (youve not been saving it in capitals again have you and its not saved over the correct file?

Trust me April, the code is not in the page you have linked to.

Guess I was just confused because every change I made showed up, except for the rollover, so it seemed to be the latest version, minus that one rollover. Regardless, you helped me fix it!

I did somehow revert back to "Index" instead of "index," not sure how, but will now remember to always check that when I have future issues. And next time I teach myself to build a site, I'll be sure not to capitalize.

thanks a million, have a great weekend!
