Dreamweaver can't connect to FTP server

Hello,
I received very good advice here before, so I would like to try again.
Yesterday I uploaded a small test site using the blue arrow up button in the files window. It worked fine. Then I tried to upload a changed file, and I could not connect to the FTP server any more. I received a message "operation timed out. cancelling ..." and then a big window with suggestions what could be wrong popped up. None of them helped. The problem is, Dreamweaver doesn't even seem to try to connect, because the message pops up almost instantly.
Also I would like to mention, that I did not change any of the settings of the remote information. Also I installed FileZilla on my Mac, and it connects just fine, with the very same login information. I much rather like to use the Dreamweaver up and download options though.
I am using Dreamweaver CS3, and it has been acting up lately, for example displaying pages wrong in design view and in the browser. Only after restarting Dreamweaver, it would display the page correctly again.

Hi,
if you open up the manage sites page, and look at your settings to your FTP site, is everything in there correctly, such as FTP selection, passive connection if required etc...?
THis sounds a little strange, perhaps it is a bug, the only thing i thought when i first read your post, and one of the things that catches me out time and time again, is the server itself needs to be set to allow to access FTP connection, but you have said that you can connect to the FTP via another program so it cant be this.
Try the different option inside the site manager and press the test button in there to see if it connects. Another problem is sometimes in the FTP box, you need to type sitename.com, and other times, you need to incluse the ftp infront of it, ftp.sitename.com

Hello Richard,
Thank you for getting back.
I tried every possible configuration in the manage sites window. I restarted Dreamweaver, restarted the computer. I then deleted the cache file. I even deleted and reinstalled the extensions. Whatever I did, it did not work. It is so odd, because it happened completely out of the blue. One moment it worked, the next it didn't.
My special contact person at our internet provider company is on vacation. I will ask him, if he has any ideas. Someone else from the company said, that no other customer has my problem. I don't know, whether the are using Dreamweaver though.
I recently upgraded to MasOSX 10.6. Even though it did work for a while under 10.6, maybe that is the problem and I need to upgrade to Dreamweaver CS4.

Thank you, Richard. I appreciate your offer. But I can't mail you user name and password. It is not my decision to make.
I did however call Adobe, and they said that no Dreamweaver version has yet been tested with Snow Leopard. So it may very well be a problem with the new operating system. And that would also explain the other problems, I have been having. For now I will just use FileZilla.
I kind of hoped, there was something I just kept overlooking, and that there was a simple solution. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

Good Luck and hope you get it sorted, if its something other than snow lepord, will you post back please?
Thanks

Normally I don't do that. But here it is ..... BIG HUG!
Your mention of corrupted preference prompted me to open the preferences for Dreamweaver. There in the site category time out was set to 2 seconds. To establish a connection it takes more than just two seconds, so I changed time out to 80 second and voila ... the FTP connection works. I don't know, if some bug could have changed the time, but connection time usually takes longer than 2 seconds, so time out could not have been at 2 seconds, when the connection worked before. I am still puzzled, but at least it works now.

I am having trouble with this same issue. I have Dreamweaver CS4 and have used it successfully in the past. I have not made any changes to my sites and recently tried to update a site and was unsuccessful to connect to the server through Dreamweaver. I have tried everything Dreamweaver suggested, even adjusting the time out in preferences up to 120 seconds. Nothing is working.
