Combining Spry Tab Paneles and Spry Collapsing Panels

I a have a task to create a vertical tabbed panel list (done) .But then the client threw me a curve and asked for segment of those vertical links to be hidden and then opened dynamically (collapsing) and at the same time have my vert tabs function appropriately, swapping out content in the same position.

Also if I may ask, can tab links be turned off? how do I make a tab link inactive.
